The short version
SayItOut has no accounts and no servers. What you record, what you type and the maps you build stay on your iPhone. We never see them and we could not if we wanted to.
What stays on your phone
Your recordings, transcripts, maps, notes and any photos you pin to an idea are written into SayItOut's own folder on the device. You can open that folder yourself in the Files app. They are ordinary files.
Apple's speech recognition turns your voice into text on the device, and the structuring that turns a ramble into a map runs on the device too, using Apple's on-device model. Neither sends your words anywhere. Due dates you push to Calendar or Reminders, and the daily notification if you switch it on, are handled the same way.
Your settings, your capture language and the record of whether you have used your one free take live in storage on the phone, plus a small file in your own iCloud account so that reinstalling does not lose them.
iCloud
Turn on backup in Settings and SayItOut copies your maps, and optionally your recordings, into your own iCloud Drive under your own Apple Account. That is storage you already own. We have no access to it, no key for it and no way to read it. Turn backup off and nothing is copied.
What actually leaves the phone
Two things, and only two.
Purchases. Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store, and Apple handles the payment. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple Account.
The paywall. SayItOut uses Superwall to fetch which paywall to show and to learn whether a purchase succeeded. Its SDK sends Superwall:
- an anonymous identifier it generates for the install, plus the vendor identifier iOS gives every app from the same developer
- your subscription and entitlement status, and purchase events
- device context: iPhone model, iOS version, app version and build, language, region, currency, timezone, appearance mode, install date
- how many times a paywall has been shown
- one word for what you told us you wanted from the app, chosen from dump, reflect, aspire, motivate or structure, so the right paywall appears
- the Apple Search Ads campaign behind the install, if you arrived from an ad
Superwall's own privacy manifest, shipped inside its SDK, declares that it collects purchase history, that it is not linked to your identity, and that it is not used to track you. Nothing you record, type, transcribe or map is ever sent to Superwall or to us.
Advertising attribution
If you installed SayItOut after tapping an Apple Search Ads ad, the Superwall SDK asks Apple which campaign it was. SayItOut reads that answer once, to open the version of onboarding that matches what the ad promised, and then stops asking. This goes through Apple's own AdServices. There is no IDFA, no tracking prompt and no advertising profile, and the campaign number is never combined with data about you from anybody else's app or website.
No analytics, no trackers
There is no analytics SDK in SayItOut. No crash reporter. No advertising network. No data brokers. Superwall is the only third-party SDK in the app and it is there to run the paywall. Nobody at Hmujo LLC has a way to read a take, and we do not sell data because we do not hold any.
Permissions SayItOut asks for
- Microphone, to record you. The app also works entirely by typing.
- Speech recognition, to turn that recording into text on the device.
- Photos, only when you tap to add a picture to an idea. The picture you pick is copied next to that map on your phone.
- Calendar and Reminders, only when you tap to send an idea's due date to one of them.
- Notifications, only if you turn on the daily line, which reads back one short thing you already said.
Say no to any of these and the rest of the app keeps working.
Children
SayItOut is not aimed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Since there is no account and no personal data collected at all, there is nothing about a child for us to hold.
Deleting your data
Delete a take inside the app and its recordings go with it. Delete the app and everything local goes. If you turned on iCloud backup, remove the SayItOut folder from your iCloud Drive to clear that copy too. For the paywall data listed above, email us and we will ask Superwall to delete the record for your install.
Changes
If SayItOut ever starts sending something new, this page changes before the version that does it ships, and the date at the top changes with it.
